I enjoyed watching this 5 min video diary by Brooklyn writer, filmmaker, Nelson George (BTW, I spotted him among the unlucky ones being turned away from a packed Bill Greaves tribute at the IFC in the West Village last week).

I lived in West London for four months in 2002 and then shuttled between there and New York City for the better part of two years, so this brought back memories. He hits up a kind of greatest hits of black London. All my favorite spots, Soho, Hackney (I once went to a Sunday afternoon comedy show at the Hackney Empire once), Dalston, Peckham (Nigeria central), a football friendly between Nigeria and Jamaica–in  George’s words: “Probably the blackest sporting event I ever will go to.” (I went to that annual friendly when it was staged at Queens Park Rangers’ stadium in West London.)

Black London. ‘Ave it.
