These are the seven cities whose art or artistic production were featured in the project Africalls? put up last year by the Spanish based CASA Africa in Barcelona. The idea was to shoot films of artists or art centers to show at a festival. I found it while looking for information about Nastio Mosquito, the young provocative Lisbon-based Angolan artist and musician whose work was included in the African Pavilion of the 57th Venice Biennale. The artists featured in a number of short films (trailers on the website) are Lolo Veleko, Mamadou Gounis, Mosquito (you can check out the film about him on his Myspace page), Jorge Dias and Myriam Mihindou. Also featured was the Doual’Art factory and the magazine Kwani.

The website is worth a visit, if only to see the trailers.

Flow‘ is a show of about 80 works by 20 different African artists currently showing at the Studio Museum of Harlem, including the work of Nontsikelelo “Lolo” Veleko, France-based Mounir Fatmi, Johannesburg’s Nicholas Hlobo, and Berlin-based Mustafa Maluka.
